Oxford Plays Host To Pontotoc On Friday Night
On Friday night the Oxford Chargers play host to the Pontotoc Warriors at Bobby Holcomb Field. Kick off for Friday’s game is set for 7 p.m.
Oxford (3-1) comes into this weeks matchup after an impressive 41-17 victory over Lafayette in the Crosstown Classic last Friday night. The Chargers were led on the ground by Hiram Waddlington Jr. with 147 yards rushing on 14 touches with two TD’s.
Head coach Chris Cutcliffe’s defense held the Commodores off of the board in the first and third quarters of the game. He sat down with HottyToddy.com to discuss how the Chargers have performed so far on the season.
“I thought it was a great win for us a great team win,” Cutcliffe said. “All three phases played well, on offensively and defensively we played well.”
Pontotoc rolls into town unblemished on the season with a 4-0 record. Last week, the Warriors defeated Aberdeen by the score 44-24. In the victory, Pontotoc used a combination of two quarterbacks in an air raid attack to get the win. Cutcliffe knows that the Chargers will need to prepare for the Warrior’s high-powered offense.
“I think they have some really good talented play makers,” Cutcliffe said. “They have a really good dandy dozen offensive lineman Cole Smith he is a fantastic player. Their receiver #1 [Austin] Morphis is a great player. Their number one tailback has not played a down this season, but their number two back has had over 700-yards on the season.
Cutcliffe added, “I think coach Carter is one of the best around, I think he has his guys always prepared, I don’t think that they make very many mistakes.”
