'Cleanup For Kick Off' Helps Oxford Prepare to Welcome Fans for Football Season
On Saturday, August 26, residents of Oxford and Lafayette County will team up for the first ever ‘Cleanup for Kick Off.’ This event will allow volunteers to come together to prepare Oxford for the tens of thousands of fans that will be coming to town in less than a week for the first Ole Miss home football game of the season.

“We’re proud of our city and county and want to make sure we’re presenting the most positive image possible to the droves of visitors who visit us each football season,” said event coordinator Cobie Watkins. “Also, participants will be able to see their contributions in a tangible way and take pride in the work they have contributed.”
Volunteers will meet at 8 a.m at the Old Armory Pavilion and will be divided into three groups to clean up stretches of highway leading into the city and county.
“We will clean up key stretches of highway and do some beautification work on the ‘Welcome to Lafayette County’ signs located on the East and West sides of Hwy 6 coming from Batesville and Pontotoc,” said Watkins. “Our mission is two fold. We want to encourage citizens to participate in the three cleanup sites we have and to encourage residents to clean their own properties and places of business on their own.”
‘Cleanup for Kick Off’ has been coordinated and planned by members of the 2017 class of Leadership Lafayette in partnership with Keep Oxford and Lafayette County Beautiful. The event will take place annually on the Saturday before the first Ole Miss home football game and will expand their work each year.
