Ole Miss Men’s Tennis Announces Exciting Schedule
Coming off their 24th consecutive NCAA appearance, the Ole Miss men’s tennis team announced an exciting and challenging schedule for the upcoming 2017-18 season. Highlighting the schedule are home matches against five top 25 teams from a year ago.
Fall schedule…
The Rebels will compete in several tournaments in the fall, beginning with the Southern Intercollegiates in Athens, Georgia Sept. 8-11 and the ITF Futures in Claremont, California. The fall schedule also includes the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the ITF Futures in Birmingham, Alabama, the ITA Southern Regional Championships in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the SEC Fall Tournament in Fayetteville, Arkansas and the Oracle ITA National Fall Championship in Indian Wells, California.
New indoor tennis center to open in 2018…
Set to open a brand new six-court indoor facility in January, the Rebels’ 2018 schedule includes 11 teams who made the NCAA Championships in 2017 and five teams who finished among the top 25 in the final ITA National Rankings, including Cornell and Baylor, who will visit Oxford Feb. 2nd and 4th, respectively.
Non-conference road trips include Charlottesville, Virginia for the ITA Kick-Off Jan. 27-28. The Rebels will face Columbia, who ended the 2017 season ranked No. 25, in the first round and could meet reigning NCAA Champion Virginia in the second round. The Rebels will face Columbia twice, as they battle the Lions at their place on Feb. 11 after traveling to Princeton on Feb. 9th.
SEC’s best headed to Oxford…
The Rebels kick off SEC play March 2 hosting co-defending SEC Champion Texas A&M, who finished ranked No. 12 in the nation in 2017. Other home SEC matches include LSU (March 4), 2017 Co-SEC Champion and NCAA Semifinalist Georgia (March 16), Tennessee (March 18), Alabama (March 30) and Mississippi State (April 8), who ended the year ranked No. 18.
The SEC Tournament will take place April 25-29 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and the NCAA first and second rounds will be held May 11-13 at sites to be determined. The NCAA Championships will be May 17-28 in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
Head coach Toby Hansson on the schedule…
“We are very excited about our home schedule and playing some of the nation’s top teams in our new indoor facility to kick off the spring season. Our tough non-conference schedule will prepare us well for the rigors of the SEC, and we look forward to hosting some of the league’s top teams. We can’t wait to see Rebel Nation this spring!”
The Rebels return six of their top seven from last year including All-American Gustav Hansson and All-SEC honoree Fabian Fallert.
