Rebel Soccer Preseason Camp Underway

Head coach Matthew Mott, in his eighth season at Ole Miss, told his team Wednesday night it was the ‘best first day we’ve ever had.’ His 26 Rebels, made up of a load of new talent and veterans alike, opened preseason camp Wednesday morning in preparation for the 2017 season.
“(We saw) a lot of really good individual effort, the ladies have come out super fit and motivated ready to take on the season,” Mott said following the night session. “As a coach it’s very exciting. I certainly didn’t sleep much last night to get ready for today, and it’s been a really good day for us.”
After the squad reported on Tuesday for meetings, they hit the field Wednesday morning for the first training session, giving the staff their first full look at the 2017 edition of the Rebels.
“We have 14 returners and 12 new players, so mixing them together and getting the chemistry right are really important,” Mott said. “A lot of competition for spots is exactly what we want here, and our depth and athleticism is as good as it’s ever been.”
Over the course of the next two weeks, the team will continue work in various training sessions. After a week of preparation in Oxford, the Rebels hit the road next week for their preseason trip to Mobile, Alabama, where they will take on South Alabama in an exhibition Aug. 11.
The 2017 regular season opens Friday, Aug. 18, at 7 p.m. against Alabama State, kicking off a stretch of three-straight at home. Ole Miss’ 10-game home slate includes marquee matchups with Big 10 foe Michigan (Aug. 25), in-state opponent Southern Miss (Sept. 3), and Southeastern Conference clashes with perennial powerhouse South Carolina (Sept. 29) and Auburn (Oct. 19), among others.
