Tommy Brown Golf Tournament Benefiting Endowment Scholarship At Northwest Begins Monday

The Country Club of Oxford will host the fifth annual Tommy Brown Golf Classic on Monday, July 24.
This is a four-man scramble benefiting the Tommy Brown Endowment Scholarship fund at Northwest Mississippi Community College. Tee time is set for 1:00 p.m. with up to 120 participants taking to the course.
The Tommy Brown Endowment Scholarship was set up in 2013 by his two sons, Tatum, Hugh and his wife Paula Brown. The scholarship is to be awarded annually to a student chosen by the Foundation. These students must maintain a certain GPA to keep the scholarship.
“Our dad set up a scholarship at Northwest in our grandfather’s name and we wanted to do the same for him,” Hugh said.
Brown served on the Northwest Foundation Board of Directors for many years, including a term as president. During this time, he established the R.L. Brown Endowment Scholarship in memory of his father. He was also a generous contributor in many other ways.
The Tommy Brown Endowment Scholarship creates an opportunity for someone to go to college that might not have had that opportunity without this scholarship. Looking for ways to fund the endowment, Paula, Tatum and Hugh put together a golf tournament.
“We were just going to do the golf scramble one time to get the scholarship setup but everybody supported it so well and had so much fun that we decided to keep it going,” Hugh said.
The tournament has faculty members from Northwest along with local members of the community coming out to participate.
“This has been a fun tournament to put on. Mom, Tatum and I have really enjoyed it. We have gotten a lot of support from the community and we greatly appreciate that,” Hugh said.
