Mayor Tannehill Officially Inaugurated, Ready To Lead Oxford Into New Era
Oxonians gathered in front of city hall Thursday morning to celebrate the inauguration of the city’s new mayor, Robyn Tannehill. Tannehill replaces outgoing Mayor Patterson following two terms in office. Tannehill took the podium after being sworn in by Judge Andrew K. Howorth, and she began by recognizing the dedicated city employees with whom she will work.
Tannehill thanked her family and other members of the community before closing with her message to the people of Oxford, asking for their cooperation in working toward the future of Oxford.
“A mayor and seven board members can’t do it by themselves. It takes buy-in from every member of this community. I believe in Oxford. I believe that we have proven ourselves, that in tough times we all come together and when we face a challenge together; we defeat it. So I invite you to join in this mission of making Oxford better than we’ve ever seen before.” – Robyn Tannehill
Tannehill and Patterson have worked alongside one another ever since he hired her to become the town’s tourism director in 1995. Patterson addressed the crowd, thanking them for allowing him to serve the community for the past 16 years, and he noted that the town is in good hands with Mayor Tannehill.
Also on hand for the occasion was Ole Miss Chancellor Jeff Vitter, who spoke about what he hopes to be a continued strong relationship between the University and the town.
Incoming and incumbent aldermen elected in this election cycle were also sworn in during the ceremony.
