The Governor’s Concert at Mississippi Bicentennial North in Oxford is still scheduled for June 24, however, the location has changed. Country and Americana legend Marty Stuart will headline the concert which was originally set to be hosted in the Ford Center on the Ole Miss campus. After the venue quickly filled up, it called for a change of plans. The concert will now be held on the stage in the Grove.
The concert is free, and the Ford Center’s limited space wouldn’t have been able to handle the large crowd. The Grove has handled its fair share of large crowds and should be the perfect place for the concert. In a press release issued by Visit Oxford, Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant discussed the decision to move the show.
“Interest in the Governor’s Concert showcasing Marty Stuart and many other Mississippi music stars has been consistent and strong,” said Gov. Phil Bryant. “The Grove provides ample space for many more families and friends to gather in celebration of Mississippi’s bicentennial.”
Alongside Stuart at the concert will be singer-songwriter Mac McAnally and Mississippi’s Music and Culture Ambassador Steve Azar. Azar was on hand for the concert’s announcement at Rowan Oak in early April and performed a song he wrote for the occasion.

Entertainment will start on the Grove stage at 5 p.m., and the bicentennial concert begins at 6:30 p.m. To kick off the concert, Dr. Jay Dean, executive director of the Arts Institute of Mississippi, will conduct a salute to Mississippi’s musical heritage titled “We Are Mississippi.” The concert will be the culmination of several events throughout the week, events leading up to the concert can be seen below courtesy of Visit Oxford.
The Bicentennial Celebration North includes a weekend of events beginning Friday, June 23, with a live taping of Thacker Mountain Radio Show in the Grove at 7 p.m., followed by the Mississippi Soul Singer Tribute Concert with Damein Wash. On Sunday, June 25, the University of Mississippi will host a Family Day tailgate in the Grove with food trucks and live music from Blackwater Trio beginning at 4 p.m.
Additional events hosted in Oxford throughout the June 23-25 weekend are listed at www.visitmississippi.org/200. All events during the Mississippi Bicentennial Celebration, including the Governor’s Concert, are free and open to the public.
