State Senator Gray Tollison is scheduled to be the featured speaker at the next meeting of the Oxford Pachyderm Club Thursday, May 25.

Sen. Tollison will discuss the state of K-12 education in the Magnola state and the need to consider elected school board members rather than selected by appointment.
“I look forward to discussing recent education reform efforts that have resulted in higher academic outcomes for Mississippi students and my thoughts on where future efforts should be focused,” Tollison said.
A Republican member of the Mississippi Senate, Tollison has represented the District 9 (Lafayette and Panola counties) since 1996. In January 2012, Lt. Governor Tate Reeves appointed Tollison Chairman of the Senate Education Committee. He also has a law practice in Oxford.
Thirty-year media veteran and founding president Russ Jones contends the new club is off to a good start.
“The Oxford Pachyderm Club has been received well as we seek to provide a civil platform to discuss policy issues, promote political involvement, advance conservatism, and principles of liberty, freedom, and prosperity,” Jones said.
The Oxford Pachyderm Club is the first chapter of the National Federation of Pachyderm Clubs in Mississippi. There are approximately 60 chapters across the country.
Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS) spoke at the inaugural meeting in April.
The Republican Party affiliated club will meet at King’s Steak (1007 College Hill Road in Oxford) and Seafood from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $20 per person. Reservations and payment can be made at OxfordPachyderm.com. Those interested can also follow the group on Facebook
