Northwest Lands Four On Capital One Academic All-District 1 First Team

Spencer Cayten, Jarod Wright, Sallie Rose Carver and Tori Luke of Northwest have been named to the 2017 Capital One Academic All-District 1 Baseball & Softball First Team as voted upon by more than 3,000 members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The four sophomores give Northwest an impressive 24 CoSIDA Academic All-District selections since 2012.
Cayten is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, has been named to both the President’s and Dean’s List at Northwest in his career and is carrying a 3.55 GPA in business administration. He’s hitting .299 (third on the team) with seven doubles, three triples, three home runs and 19 RBIs in 23 starts.
Wright is 6-3 with a 4.27 ERA and team-best 55 strikeouts in 13 appearances this season and recently moved into fourth on Northwest’s all-time strikeout list with 120. Off the field, Wright has a 3.80 GPA in biology (business administration minor) and was inducted into the 2016-17 Northwest Hall of Fame, a 2015-16 NJCAA Academic Student Athlete, member of Phi Theta Kappa and also a two-time member of Northwest’s Dean’s List and fall 2016 President’s List.
Carver was a 2015-16 NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete, member of Phi Theta Kappa and named to the spring 2016 President’s List. She was third on the team with a .358 average this season with 10 doubles, two triples, a home run, 30 runs scored and 32 RBIs and led Northwest back to the MACJC playoffs after a one-year hiatus. She’s carrying a 3.47 GPA in dental hygiene.
Luke is a two-time honoree on Northwest’s Dean’s List. She hit .402 (second on the team) with 10 doubles, a triple, two home runs and team-leading 35 RBIs this season and was also 7-7 with two saves and 47 strikeouts in 73.2 innings of work. She’s carrying a 3.49 GPA in general college.
The Academic All-District 1 Baseball & Softball Teams are made up of student-athletes from the NAIA, Canadian and 2-year ranks.
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
College Division Academic All-America honors will be announced on Monday, May 22 for softball and Tuesday, May 30 for baseball.
