Five Films, One Night: Best of Oxford Film Festival Screening
The 2017 Oxford Film Festival swept through the community bringing visitors and films for a few short yet memorable days last month. For those who missed this huge event, or for those who simply want to relive it, there is hope.
The Oxford Film Festival is bringing five of the 2017 film entries to the Powerhouse for one night only. On Thursday, March 16, “All Are Welcome Here,” “Otha Turner,” “The Fox and The Whale,” “Some Freaks” and the Oxford community film “Firemax” will begin screening at 7 p.m.
All five of the films are Hoka Award winners, meaning these films won the top award in their category at the 2017 Oxford Film Festival.
“We want to provide free screenings throughout the year,” said Melanie Addington, Oxford Film Festival’s executive director. “This is a good introductory event each March for those who either missed these films at the festival or are unfamiliar with the film festival. This gives them an opportunity to get a good sampling of films.”
The Oxford Film Festival brings hundreds of filmmakers and thousands of fans to Oxford each February. While the festival is the main event of the year for the Oxford Film Festival crew, there are several other screenings throughout the year that will interest fans provide others with a taste of what to expect at the annual festival.
“We have a series of films scheduled throughout the year,” Addington said. “We have two films in April and two in May and then are taking the Best of Oxford Film Festival throughout the state in June. Plus we will have movie screenings in Oxford each month.”
This event, as well as many of the future screenings, are free and open to the public. Concessions will also be available at the Best of Oxford Film Festival screening.
