VIDEO: Five Guys Becomes New Competitor in Oxford Burger Wars
With the addition of Five Guys on Jackson Avenue, the sizzling new burger joint adds to the list of recently established hamburger restaurants in Oxford such as Cookout and Mugshots.
Mugshots Assistant Manager Jacob Robertson welcomes the competition.
“It’s going to spread the wealth out a little bit, but that’s fine as long as more people come over here to this side of town. Not hanging out around campus all the time. It’ll be good.”
Robertson is also a Five Guys fan.
“Personally, I know I’m going to bring a lot of business over to Five Guys. I love Five Guys. They have awesome burgers and fries. Used to eat Five Guys in Tuscaloosa before I moved over here,” he added.
With a variety of hamburger restaurants in town, could Oxford be a tad “burgered” out? Not according to Google Trends, where we see that, out of all the “burger” searches on Google in Mississippi, Oxford ranks No. 1. However, burger enthusiasts on the Ole Miss campus and elsewhere have different views on the best burger in town.
Ole Miss student Dawson Trapnell is Bim Bam fan, while freshman Jack Hall gives Neon Pig the nod. Mugshots employee Mystian Danyelle Phillips said, “Besides Mugshots would be Phillips Grocery.” Ole Miss student Evan Brown concurred.
“Big Bad Breakfast. Once had a burger over there. Their burger was pretty awesome. It was pretty good. I like Big Bad Breakfast,” said Robertson.
Whether Oxford’s best hamburger is at a new restaurant like Mugshots or an older establishment such as Handy Andy’s, the competitions continues to grow.
