Oxford Restaurant Fat Eddie's Brings 'Old-School' Italian To The Table

Hottytoddy.com ventured into Fat Eddie’s (the former Lamar Lounge) this week to see all the new things they had to offer.
Located on North Lamar Blvd., just a minute or so from the Square, we found what could easily be called the best Italian food offered in town.

Logan Little, manager of Fat Eddie’s, and Chef Rusty Anderson greeted us at the door and insisted we try a little bit of everything on their “old-school” Italian menu.
According to Fat Eddie’s website, “Fat Eddie’s Lamar Lounge offers up old-school Italian favorites in a memorable setting. The centerpiece is a lovingly restored 14 seat 1800’s Brunswick bar, which was once owned by legendary actor Eddie Fisher. Originally built by and for Fat Possum Records, Lamar Lounge hosted live music and cooked up whole hog barbecue until Fall 2016.The newly christened Fat Eddie’s Lamar Lounge hits the reset button with chef John Currence’s unique spins on traditional Italian comfort food and a renewed focus on quality food and service.”

First, we tried a libation “Sophia’s Breath on your Ear,” a champagne cocktail with Disaronno, B&B brandy, lemon juice and cranberry bitters.

Next, we tried the Roasted Cippolini Onions & Potatoes. The mixture of the house-made marinara with the grated parmesan cheese and the texture of the potatoes was to-die-for. We could have eaten three more of these plates!

We also got a sneak peek of the action in the kitchen, thanks to Chef Rusty.

Following, was their House salad. As a salad enthusiast, my hunt for my new favorite salad in Oxford is over. I will come to Fat Eddie’s for this blend of pine nuts, romaine, cherry tomatoes, slices of carrot and flavorful balsamic dressing.

We were then treated to trying three different entrees offered, all three full of eclectic flavor and “melt-in-your-mouth” tastes.
First was the Rigatoni Alla Vodka. Being a vodka sauce snob, this was incredible. I will be returning for everything, but especially this dish. Paired with a glass of the Chianti, the sweet flavor of the sauce and rigatoni was unreal.

Next up was the Orecchiette, a perfect mixture of spice with sausage and peppers. While some dishes can overwhelm with the spices, this was on the milder side but still had a tasty kick.

Last, we tried the most popular menu item, Pan Roasted Strip Steak “The Fat Eddie.” Served on a hot iron pan, the serving size is plentiful and will leave you in a savory state.

I rate Fat Eddie’s a 10/10 on their new menu, and will definitely be returning.
