Oxford Couples On Buying The Best Valentine for Him Or Her

For the longest time, Valentine’s Day has been synonymous with marketing toward women. Flowers, chocolates and jewelry are among the items that many men will give that one special lady on Valentine’s Day. But some men won’t buy into the hype.
“I don’t get nervous for Valentine’s Day,” said Oxford resident Billy Canale, who is engaged to be married. “Emilee and I fall more on the side of the fence that Valentine’s Day is kinda overrated. I think we feel this way because we both like to do special things for each other often and sporadically.”
And perhaps it’s because the Valentine’s Day gift list for women has been around so long, but sometimes women struggle more than men to come up with the perfect present.
“I have to admit that I have searched like ‘gifts for men’ or something along those lines before,” Emilee Fuller, Billy’s fiancé admitted. “I think it’s hard to buy gifts for guys, like with girls you can get them jewelry (like most guys do) and they are happy with it.”
In fact, looking at Google searches in Mississippi for the past five years, you’ll see that figuring out what to get the guy almost always calls for more research than what to buy for a woman.

Another local couple, Cody Sanders and Hayley Bair won’t be together on Valentine’s Day this year. Bair transferred from Ole Miss to Georgia College and State University, and that’s putting pressure on Sanders.
“This is our first one apart,” Sanders said, “so I’m walking a risky line. I’m still going to do something, but I haven’t put much thought into what yet.”
The past few Valentine’s Days, Bair has avoided choosing a gift altogether.
“The only actual Valentine’s Day present I got him was a year ago,” Bair said. “We would rather go somewhere and do adventures rather than buy material things.”
Canale says he and Fuller tend to buy each other “little happys” throughout the year, but this Tuesday won’t be just another day for them.
“This year, however, we decided to celebrate being engaged on Valentine’s since this will be our only Valentine’s being engaged.”
