Commodores Capping The Season Strong As They Take On Potts Camp Tonight
After a win Tuesday, the Lafayette High School Commodores (10-13) face Potts Camp High School (11-15) tonight in the last regular season game of the year.
Commodore coach John Sherman said this season has been Lafayette’s best since the 2012 – 2013 season, and they want to head into the offseason with high hopes and expectations for next season.
Lafayette will only be losing two seniors, leaving three of their top performers of the 2017 season to return next year. This last regular season game is a peep into next year’s Commodore team, which is expected to be as strong as ever.
Lafayette and Potts Camp are similar in that they both struggle on the road and are pretty solid teams at home.
Lafayette is 2-7 on the road this season; and tonight, they have to travel to Potts Camp, who is a respectable 7-3 on their home court this season. Lafayette and Potts Camp come into this Friday night showdown carrying two and three-game win streaks, respectively. Regardless, both teams will be hungry for a win to end the regular season.
Potts Camp’s offense is thriving as of late; they have scored 60 or more points in each of their last five games. That thriving offense is led by eighth grader Mitchell Saulsberry who averages 12 points and 8 rebounds per game as the youngest player on the floor in every single game. The eighth grader is an extremely intriguing athlete and one to keep an eye on Friday night.
The strong junior class for the Commodores look to finish the 2016 – 2017 campaign strongly heading into the offseason. For an idea of how well the junior class has performed on the court, six juniors on the team make up for 77 percent of the team’s scoring and grab 68 percent of the rebounds for the Commodores. That strong junior class is highlighted by Hogan Linzy, Jonah Matlock, and Keilan Buford: Lafayette needs strong games from these guys if they want to end their season strongly.
Lafayette Commodores takes on Potts Camp High School at Potts Camp in their last game of the season tonight at 6 p.m.
