The Rebels and the Tigers get set for an SEC showdown on the Plains.
The Ole Miss baseball team travels to the plains to take on the Auburn Tigers in a SEC series tilt that starts tonight.
Ole Miss (32-14, 11-10 SEC) comes into this weekend ranked as high as number 18 in the country, according to USA Today / ESPN Coaches poll. The Rebels defeated the Saint Louis Billikens on Wednesday 8-7 in eleven innings. With the win, Ole Miss improves to 4-1 on the season in the five-extra inning games they have played.
Junior Stuart Turner and Austin Anderson both delivered big hits on Tuesday when Turner tied the game up in the ninth, Anderson hit the game-winner in the 11th inning.
On Friday against Kentucky, Andrew Mistone had a huge performance at plate and was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle with an RBI single, RBI double and a three-RBI triple.
Auburn (25-18, 7-14 SEC) welcomes the Rebels into town after losing a series on the road to Missouri last weekend. Auburn dropped Saturday and Sundays games after winning game one. The Tigers are led at the plate by Garrett Cooper, who has an .347 average, with six home runs and 33 RBI’s so far on the season. As a club, Auburn is hitting with a .267 average, including 18 home runs, while driving in a total of 183 RBI’s and scoring 204 runs.
The probable pitching rotation for this weekend showcases the arms of LHP Conner Kendrick (Tonight), LHP Michael O’Neal (Saturday), with Sunday’s starter yet to be announced for the Auburn Tigers.
Coach Mike Bianco is sending Wahl, Mayers and Smith to the hill for the Rebels.
Ole Miss and Auburn have laced up their spikes and met on the diamond for 155 times prior to this series. The Tigers have a slim lead in the overall series at 78-76-1. The Rebels trail Auburn by six games 38-32 in Auburn. Last season, Ole Miss dropped the series to the Tigers two games to one in Oxford.
