The Ole Miss Rifle team returned from the holidays to help serve good food and encouragement to the Oxford community on Tuesday at the Stone Center with the More Than a Meal Organization.
More Than a Meal helps men, women and children in Oxford get back on their feet by providing nutritious meals in a welcoming environment, educational tutoring to school age children and adults and essential health toiletries.
Each week the program welcomes a new speaker or local organization to join them. This week, it was the Ole Miss Rifle team’s chance to use their platform to make an impact on the community they compete for.
“The whole team, myself included, really enjoyed volunteering with More Than a Meal yesterday,” head coach Marsha Beasley said. “The event was well organized and was a great chance for us to interact with the community and spend some time with Oxford residents.”
All members of the rifle team participated in this event and focused on the influence their presence made in each interaction shared throughout the evening. Be sure to watch The Season on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 6 p.m. CT for more on this.
The Rebels return to action Saturday hosting Murray State and Kentucky at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center. Action begins at 8 a.m. and fans can enjoy free breakfast from Chick-fil-A.

Bramlett Returns to NCAA Convention to Represent SEC

Bramlett-e1461337443847.jpgBrady Bramlett, a starting pitcher for the Ole Miss baseball team over the past two seasons, has been chosen to represent the Southeastern Conference on proposed governance rule changes under the NCAA’s Division I autonomy process at the NCAA Convention in Nashville next week. Bramlett will return to the NCAA Convention for the second-straight year as a vote and voice for SEC student-athletes.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be returning to the NCAA Convention for the third time, and the second time voting as a representative for the SEC,” said Bramlett. “My time with NCAA Division I SAAC has been incredibly constructive for not only my future, but the future of student-athlete wellbeing. I can never thank Ole Miss, the SEC and the NCAA enough for the awesome experiences that have been provided. I’d especially like to thank Derek Cowherd (senior associate A.D. for student athlete development), Sheila Padgett (assistant director of student-athlete development) and Laura Webb (senior administrative secretary) for starting me on this journey with a nomination back in 2014.”
Joining Bramlett will be Marqu’es Webb, a member of the Vanderbilt women’s basketball team; and Antoine Marc, a former member of the Texas A&M men’s swimming and diving team. The three student-athletes will represent the SEC as part of the Autonomy Conferences (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac 12, SEC) efforts to engage and empower student-athletes by giving them both a voice and vote within a transparent decision-making process.
“Engaging student-athletes in the NCAA governance structure is central to the autonomy process and we are well-represented by these three SEC student-athletes,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. “In the SEC, we have been purposeful in engaging our student-athletes in key conversations related to issues they view important to their lives as students and athletes. At the NCAA Convention, these three students will have their voices heard and will contribute to important decisions in a forum with athletics administrators and other intercollegiate athletics leaders.”
The autonomy governance model grants flexibility to schools in the Atlantic Coast, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac 12 and Southeastern conferences to change specified rules within Division I. The legislative process for these 65 schools includes three student-athlete representatives from each conference who will vote on rule changes. Voting on autonomy issues includes 15 total student-athletes (three from each of the Autonomy Conferences) who, collectively, will cast votes in greater number than four of the five Autonomy Conferences.
Bramlett, from Bartlett, Tennessee, was a starting pitcher in the Rebels’ rotation for the past two seasons before choosing to end his baseball career despite being drafted in the 13th round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft by the Boston Red Sox. As a three-year letterman, he compiled a 20-8 record with a 3.40 ERA over his collegiate career. Bramlett earned his bachelor’s degree in biological science at Ole Miss and remains at the university to pursue a master’s degree in integrated marketing communications. Bramlett currently works as an intern in the Ole Miss Athletics Department as he is focused on beginning a career in collegiate athletics administration.
Bramlett represents the SEC and also serves as the Co-Chair of the NCAA Division I National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and as a student-athlete representative on the Division I Board of Directors. He is a past representative on the NCAA Strategic Vision and Planning Committee, a subcommittee of the NCAA Division I Council, and formerly served on the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee.

Ole Miss Men’s Tennis Shuts Out Hawaii in First Dual Match

unnamedThe Ole Miss men’s tennis team not only enjoyed the beautiful beaches of Hawaii, but also racked up 23 wins in doubles and singles this week, including a 7-0 win over Hawaii on Wednesday in their first dual match of the 2017 season.
After competing against players from LSU and Duke as part of the Rainbow Warrior Classic Monday and Tuesday, the Rebels took on the host team Wednesday and needed less than two hours to take care of the Rainbow Warriors.
The Rebels swept the doubles, only dropping six games total in three matches to go up 1-0. In singles, Zvonimir Babic was first off the court at six, followed by Grey Hamilton at five and then Ricardo Jorge clinched it at four. All three won in straight sets. Fabian Fallert and Gustav Hansson added straight set wins as well and then freshman Tim Sandkaulen finished off his opponent in a supertiebreaker to close out the sweep and a 2-0 day in his first dual match.

Thoughts from head coach Toby Hansson…
“I am extremely happy with how fired up the guys were in doubles. We had done a great job all week, and they didn’t let up today. We kept the momentum going in singles and it was great to see everyone come out on top. I love how we competed from top to bottom.”
“It was good to see Tim help his team come out on top with a doubles and singles win in his first dual match and for Devin to record his first win as a coach. This is just the beginning of long and successful careers as a player and coach.”
