Inside The Ole Miss Rebels Tennis Complex

The Ole Miss tennis team is headed for Hawaii tomorrow morning ahead of the Rainbow Warrior Classic which will begin their 2017 season. The Rebels will have a few days to get acclimated to their surroundings before their first match on January 9th; The tournament will feature Ole Miss, Duke, LSU and host Hawaii. The tournament will be an exhibition, but the Rebels will play their first official match of the season of the 14th against Hawaii.
Coming off a 16-11 season in 2016, the Rebels will return all but one player from last years roster. Head coach Toby Hansson knows that building team chemistry can go a long way in improving from last season along with their preparation for the upcoming season.
“They’ve really become a tight group, and I think that’s going to be every important coming into the season,” Hansson said. “We tried to get the guys as many matches as we could in the fall, and we improved throughout the whole semester, and we’re in a much better position today than we were at the beginning of last semester.
In 2016 the Rebels fell in the NCAA tournament to the Semifinalist #14 Cal Bears. The Rebels tennis program has enjoyed 23 straight seasons of NCAA tournament appearances, a streak that many programs would envy.
“I think Billy Chadwick a foundation for the future after numerous successful years, and built the tradition of success and I’m proud that we have continued that.”
The Rebels will begin SEC play in early March, and while Hansson believes that every player can always get better, he says that his team is in great shape and are ready to go. The Rebels are searching for their first SEC title since the 2008-09 season.
