The Perfect Christmas Card From ‘Me And Jolie’
Kaye Johnson, of Old Hickory, Tennessee, wasted no time searching for the perfect Christmas card well in advance of the holiday season.
“I had determined that this would be the year to have all my Christmas cards addressed and mailed by December 1,” Johnson said. “It would be very simple: list, cards, address, stamp and place in mailbox.”
Several lousy, impersonal Christmas cards later, the Mississippi-loving, poetry-writing Johnson returned to her ‘Candy Cane pen.’
“I wanted the card to be more than a generic greeting,” Johnson said. “The cards that I liked were more than I wanted to spend. I started thinking, ‘Why don’t I make my own cards,’ but it was time-consuming to sprinkle glitter.”
Time after time of tweaking ‘The Perfect Christmas Card,’ Johnson finally told herself, with a selfie of her and her sweet dog, it would have to do.
“I called it ‘Christmas Card Chaos’ focusing on the ups and downs of trying to make a Christmas card,” Johnson said. “But, I pulled it out again and thought, ‘Do this or forget it.'”
“The Perfect Christmas Card” by Kaye Johnson:
Christmas rush… too much to do!
Always on hold or next in queue.
Try as I did (and I tried very hard)…
To find the perfect Christmas Card.
I made a list of family and friends,
Checked it twice with my Candy Cane Pen,
Hurried to my car, sped to the mall,
Christmas cards decked wall after wall…
The perfect card was waiting: shiny and bright,
Santa with his sleigh, but the price wasn’t right.
I settled for a selfie of me and my dog,
Eating gingerbread cookies and sipping Eggnog.
No clicks for a pic, not one little sound…
My elf-like smile turned upside down.
No need to pout; never one to be jarred,
Instead, I made the perfect Christmas card.
Me and Jolie… yes, Jolie, my sweet dog,
All snuggled and cozy near my Yule Log.
Sending barks of love and Holiday Cheer,
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL and A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
