YAC Presents 2017 yART Sale: "I Just yARTed"
The Yoknapatawpha Arts Council (YAC) will host the 2017 yART Sale this Sunday, Jan. 8 at the Powerhouse from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Everyone is invited to clean out their closets and come buy, trade or donate.
YAC holds numerous arts-related events all year long and rents both the Powerhouse and the community pavilion for other organizations to use. With all of this activity, YAC accumulates props, art supplies, clothes and more throughout the year. The yART Sale is a chance for YAC to open its doors and allow the community to buy, trade or swap for what they want.
“It’s the new year, so we’re cleaning out our closets and getting organized,” said Caitlin Hopper, YAC Director of Operations. “We’ll have items to swap, sell and trade for. Individuals cannot come in and sell their items, but they may swap/trade their art-related items for ours, or they may buy items.”
If patrons do not wish to swap items, they can donate items they have or can buy what YAC has to offer. There will not be set prices on most items and guests are invited to pay what they feel is a fair price.
Oxford Maker’s Market will offer additional items for patrons and will have local handmade items on sale from over 20 vendors.
“The Oxford Maker’s Market comes to the Powerhouse for January, February and usually March, and they will also have vendors set up selling homemade/handmade items,” Hopper said. “There are lots of opportunities to find something fun.”
Additionally, guests are welcome to take a picture with YAC’s famous “I Just yARTed” sign at the event.
YAC is also excited to use this time to clear out space to make room for their new renovation project that will be starting soon.
“The New Year is always an exciting time of change and fresh possibilities, and the yART Sale embodies that,” Hopper said. “We’re also clearing out space in preparation for renovations, made possible from a grant from the city that is slated to start in a few weeks. We’ll be renovating the bathrooms as well as the green room, adding additional classroom and dressing room space as well as a bathroom backstage for performers.”
Admission to the yART Sale is free and open to all ages and price ranges.
