Friends, Family Mourn Death of Student Elizabeth Cheek, A Life That Ended Too Soon
On Sunday, yet another young life was lost too soon to her Oxford, Ole Miss and Nashville families. Elizabeth Osborn Cheek, who was spending the semester off from studies at Ole Miss while living and working in Oxford, passed away. She was only twenty years old.
According to her obituary on Legacy.com, Elizabeth was born in Nashville. She attended the University of Mississippi where she was obtaining a bachelors degree in marketing. Elizabeth was also a member of the Delta Gamma sorority and worked as the head server at Bacchus on the Square in Oxford.
According to friends, she very much loved her job at Bacchus on the Square and often worked on marketing and party planning for the same company’s new venture Rowdy Rebs. Her close group of friends treasured their time with her as shown in these beautiful tributes.
She worked as a summer camp counselor at Camp Merrie Woode, a camp for girls and young women in North Carolina, which was the camp she had grown up going to.
According to friends, Elizabeth was full of life and had much to give, as evidenced by these posts introducing herself in anticipation of the arrival of the campers.
According to the merriewood.com website, the mission of the camp reads: Merrie-Woode is a sanctuary of rarest beauty which inspires a lasting awareness of God’s presence. The Mission of Camp Merrie-Woode is to use that setting to nurture the physical, intellectual and spiritual growth of girls and young women through traditional camp activities and outdoor adventures. In this friendly, non-competitive community of simplified living, each individual is valued for who she is and who she will become.
