YAC Hosts ‘5 Trends You Need To Know About The Internet For Small Businesses’ Tonight At 5
Get a head start on your New Year’s resolution tonight to turn your idea into a sustainable small business at the Arts Incubator Workshop: “5 Trends You Need to Know about the Internet for Small Businesses.”
The workshop will be at the Powerhouse with networking beginning at 5 p.m. and will include an introduction to the new CSA (community-supported art) program and a talk by professional graphic artist, Steven Hopper, Hopper Creative. The event is free and sponsored by the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council.
“We’ve had a great year of workshops and received a lot of positive feedback from our members,” said Wayne Andrews, director of the arts council. “I am excited to start this new program and to help people develop sustainable small businesses that are such a unique part of Oxford.”
The CSA program is a new component of the Gallery Series and will feature four to six artists, who have developed a model for pre-selling shares of artwork. The CSA will culminate with an exhibition at the June Art Crawl. At the exhibition, participants will debut new and original artwork, and shares may be picked up by investors. The shares may appear as traditional prints, t-shirts, or whatever model the artist originally proposed.
“Artists and small business owners can learn about the CSA program, and then Steven Hopper will talk about some important trends for small businesses online,” Andrews said. “It will be a great time to ask questions and learn how to work smarter, not harder on things like social media.”
The Arts Incubator was launched by staff at YAC in 2009 when they saw an overlapping of needs for artists developing small businesses. Previous workshops have covered topics like accounting, writing a business plan and graphic design. The Incubator is funded in part by grants from the National Endowment through the ArtWorks program and from the Mississippi Arts Commission.
