Annual Holiday Ornament Auction To Be Held Thursday in Oxford
The annual Holiday Ornament Auction supporting the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council (YAC) will be held Thursday, Dec. 8 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The Holiday Ornament Auction is a fundraiser for YAC and helps the organization to continue to operate and provide events and productions for the community. YAC hosts over 300 art programs each year, including classes, concerts, theater productions, art shows and much more.
The event started around three decades ago and was held in board members’ homes before settling at the Powerhouse in 2006. After over ten years at its current location, this year the party will be bigger than ever with assorted local food tastings, cocktails, beer and, of course, ornaments.
“The Holiday Ornament Auction is the Art Council’s largest fundraiser and helps us provide more and more art to our community each year,” said Caitlin Hopper, operations coordinator. “Come and bid for your chance to win one-of-a-kind ornaments created by local artists.”
The ornaments are all the work of local artists, and there will be over 100 pieces up for auction at the event. Attendees will have the chance to bid on as many pieces as they wish, with ornaments in many different price ranges to accommodate everyone’s budget.
In preparation for the event, YAC will be selling raffle tickets for a Christmas angel painting by Jere Allen, an internationally-known artist. It is $25 for one raffle ticket or $90 for four raffle tickets. There will only be 100 raffle tickets sold, and the drawing will be at the Holiday Ornament Auction.
Admission to the Holiday Ornament Auction is free to Arts Council members. Those who are not currently members can become members in advance or at the door the night of the event. Membership is $35 for individuals or $50 for families. The Holiday Ornament Auction is a members only event. Membership benefits include discounts on classes and events, a weekly arts newsletter and invitations to special members-only events.
“We consider this event our community holiday party where we celebrate everything we’ve accomplished through the year,” Hopper said. “It’s a way to thank everyone who is involved with the Arts Council.”
