Car Crashes Into Jackson Avenue Center
Last night at approximately 8:15, a vehicle crashed into the Jackson Avenue Center. At this point, we are unable to confirm the identity of the driver, but we can confirm it was a female. An ambulance was dispatched along with UPD officers; however, the condition of the driver has not yet been released. The portion of the building impacted was Dr. Alice Steimle’s office. Steimle, the associate director of the Center for Math and Science, explained that the driver hit the sign at the front of the parking lot and continued down toward the building eventually colliding with the cinderblock wall.
Steimle received a phone call about the incident and immediately made her way over to the building to check out the damage.
“I was shocked and saddened when I first saw the damage,” Steimle said. “I was thankful that I wasn’t working late, and then I was just praying that no one was hurt.”
Inspections of the building will go on throughout the day as they work to properly assess and repair the damage done to the building.
The Oxford Police Department has stated that University Police Officers are handling the investigation; however, UPD was unable to disclose information at this time. We will continue to update the story as we learn new information.
