LSU has reportedly extended a head coaching offer to Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher.
That’s according to ESPN 104.5’s Charles Hanagriff, who describes the offer as “an extremely substantial one,” as relayed by WAFB’s Jaques Doucet.
Doucet later deleted his original tweet, and followed up with the below message:
Fisher has been linked to the LSU job ever since NOLA.com’s James Smith reported last week that the Tigers had contacted Fisher, along with North Carolina coach Larry Fedora. That report also stated at the time that interim coach Ed Orgeron remained a top candidate.
The Florida State head coach responded to the report with a rather vague answer prior to the Seminoles’ Week 12 contest against Syracuse.
“I did [see the report] when I walked out of a meeting, had no idea,” Fisher told reporters. “But here’s the thing: I’m not going to talk about any jobs. I love being at Florida State. I plan on being here and I’m just getting ready for Syracuse. That’s the last thing I’m going to say on that. No offense to anybody or anything else, that’s just what I’m going to do. I love being here.”
Should Fisher turn down the reported offer, the Tigers reportedly hold alist of other top candidates, which includes Orgeron, Houston coach Tom Herman, Fedora, Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente and potentially Colorado head coach Mike Macintyre.
Fisher played the role of LSU’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2000-06 before taking the same jobs at Florida State. He was promoted to head coach in 2010 and has coached the Seminoles to a 76-17 record in seven seasons, including a 2014 BCS National Championship victory over Auburn.
