Construction of My Oxford Storage’s New Location Well Underway
My Oxford Storage, formerly AAA self-storage, has been in business since 2008, and owner Todd Paine has overseen the development of three storage facilities across Oxford. He is currently overseeing the development off his largest facility, a 12 acre, 164,000 square foot facility on HWY 6 East in front of the Jefferson.
Due to the size of the new facility compared to other locations, boat and RV storage will be available. A mix of climate and non-climate controlled units along with covered and uncovered storage spaces for vehicles will be offered. With a focus on quality over quantity, Paine wants to ensure things are done properly rather than quickly. This along with the desire to keep the market from becoming flooded has led to the development of this new facility to take place in phases rather than all at once.
“The last thing I want to do is come in and flood the market with too many units and drive rates down. A facility of this size has the potential to do that, but I remain mindful of the potential pitfalls of over development and the affects they would have on our customers as well as our competition..” Paine said.
The first phase to be completed will focus on the development of the boat and RV storage because of the need for it across the community. A mix of climate and non-climate buildings will also be included. The first phase is projected to be completed in April 2017. Paine noted that the focus and target completion dates of following phases of the project will depend on the market demand.
After overseeing the development of his other three locations, Paine has learned from his experience to cut down on unnecessary spending and work toward creating the best facilities that he can.
“I could probably spend an hour telling you all the things I’ve learned,” Paine said “The biggest takeaway I’ve had is how to build efficiently. I’ve taken steps to become more energy efficient, and investing in electronic infrastructure to control humidity, lighting and other things to pull the unneeded expense side down so we can focus more on creating a nice, and safe building for customers.”
Paine is an Oxford native, and he wants to ensure that the development of his facilities is done with the community in mind, not solely the profits.
“I was born and raised here, and I’ve gotten some flak for storage units, and this location is no different,” Paine said “Storage units aren’t sexy, that’s just the nature of the business but we’ve tried to design and present them in ways that don’t detract. We use earth tone colors to blend, and add landscape to the building to make them more pleasing. I do that because I am from here, I’m very connected to this community, and I’m not going to put my reputation in jeopardy.”
With a focus on the customer, My Oxford Storage prides themselves on making the customer their number one priority.
“We want to make everything easy for the customer and cover the entire spectrum of our customers need, Paine said “All the way from those who want to come in hand us a check and do things in person to the one’s who want to do everything online and never see us; We want to make the customers experience to whatever they want it to be.”
While there are many storage options around town, My Oxford Storage aims to create an environment that customers choose over the completion because of the steps they’ve taken to go above and beyond what other facilities offer.
“Being involved with people and the community is important to me. It’s most rewarding to me to see people using us because they want to, not just because we’re by their house or because no one else had a unit,” Paine said, “We want people to use us because we do it better, and we will always strive to be better.”
