The 2016-17 Ole Miss Women’s Basketball season officially tips off tomorrow afternoon as the Rebels host Southeastern Louisiana inside the Pavilion at Ole Miss at 2:30 p.m.
Ole Miss comes in after picking up a 93-40 win over Mississippi College in an exhibition game.
Head coach Matt Insell’s squad has a lot of key components returning to wear the red and blue this season along with several new faces.
The Rebels have a quartet of seniors on the court in Bretta Hart, Shequila Joseph, Erika Sisk and Taylor Manuel.
Sisk has scored over 300 points in each of her two collegiate seasons and seems poised to become Ole Miss’ 27th 1,000-point scorer in school history.
Let’s take a deeper look at what Southeastern Louisiana brings into this season opener.
Southeastern Louisiana enters the 2016-17 season with a new coach in Errol Gauff. Last season the Lions were 4-25 with wins over Florida A&M, Stephen F. Austin, Lamar and Nicholls State. The Lions return second leading scorer Taylin Underwood, who averaged 13.2 ppg last season but will have to replace their top two rebounders from a year ago with Nanna Pool, who averaged 9.2 rag, and KaeLynn Boyd, who grabbed five rebounds per game. Southeastern Louisiana has seven newcomers on the roster this season including four true freshmen.
Going deeper in the rivalry between these two squads, Friday marks the 18th all-time meeting between Southeastern Louisiana and Ole Miss. The Rebels own a 17-0 advantage in the series.
Ole Miss will be back in action on Sunday afternoon as they host Lipscomb at 5 p.m.
