The Windham family puts on a one-of-a-kind trick or treat experience on South Lamar.

The Windham family has been famous for their trick or treat experience in the community. They started the Halloween tradition 20 years ago when they first moved into the house. However, over the years, younger families have moved in on South Lamar and started to join in on the fun and decorate their homes to make South Lamar the place to trick or treat in Oxford.

Linda Windham predicts to have around 700 trick or treaters tonight and has prepared with over 1,500 pieces of candy.

Linda Windham said, “I can’t mentally handle buying 1,500 pieces of candy at once, so I start buying a little at a time starting in September.”

The Windham house has collected many Halloween characters through the years, adding a new one every year. This year’s new character is a blow-up of the Grim Reaper. (See below)

Windham started her collection from Halloween stores in Birmingham, Alabama, and then started purchasing from Halloween catalogs. However, in the beginning years, they made their own Halloween attractions, from a man in an electric chair to cages they would get into dressed as monsters.

The Windham house is famous for the haunted tunnel leading up to their front door. They started the tunnel 10 years ago, and it was such a big hit that it has now turned into an Oxford Halloween tradition.

Windham said, “Every year, we say it’s going to be our last, but we’re back again this year.”
