NFL Weekly Rebels

Here at OleMissSports.com, we are proud to update Rebel fans on the exploits of our former players who lace up their cleats on Sundays in the NFL. Ole Miss has a big presence in the league again this year. There are currently 21 former Rebels on NFL rosters, including two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning, recent Super Bowl participants Brandon Bolden and Michael Oher, and 2016 first-round draft picks Robert Nkemdiche, Laquon Treadwell and Laremy Tunsil.

Ten former Rebels made appearances last week. Mike Wallace set a career high with 10 catches against the Jets.

Here’s a rundown of how each former Rebel performed in week seven of the 2016 NFL season:

Contributed to the Patriots’ victory over the Steelers (27-16).

A member of the 49ers’ practice squad.

Did not see action in Cincinnati’s victory over Cleveland (31-17).

Picked up by Tampa Bay last week as a member of the practice squad.

#27 SENQUEZ GOLSON | CB | Pittsburgh Steelers

Did not see action for Pittsburgh’s defeat to New England due to injury. Looking to return by November. He has been placed on injured reserve.

Did not see action in Minnesota’s loss to Philadelphia (21-10).

Started at left guard for the Dolphins’ victory over the Bills (28-25).

#12 MIKE WALLACE | WR | Baltimore Ravens

Started at WR for Baltimore, logging 10 receptions for 120 yards in a 24-16 defeat to the Jets. Wallace’s 10 catches marked a career high in his eight years in the league.

Rebels in Second Place Going into Final Round

The Ole Miss women’s golf team used strong rounds from junior Katy Harris and sophomore Martina Flori to stay in contention through two rounds of the Palmetto Intercollegiate at Kiawah Island.

The Rebels followed up their 290 in the opening round with a 293 in Round 2. Ole Miss led for much of the day, but a few miscues late in the round, coupled with a strong finish from Coastal Carolina, dropped head coach Kory Henkes’ group to second on the leaderboard.

“The team played well today, but we had some hiccups down the stretch that cost us a few shots,” Henkes said. “Fortunately, we get to play again tomorrow.”

Harris led the way, shooting 2-under (70) for a tournament total of 143. That puts her in a tie for second overall, just one stroke behind Coastal Carolina’s Malene Krolboll Hansen for the lead.

“Katy has had a lot of birdies this week,” Henkes said. “She has played smart out here, but she has been aggressive when needed.”

The St. Simons Island, Georgia native used three birdies in her first four holes, and five throughout the day, to shoot her best round as a Rebel.

“I felt really good about my round,” Harris said. “I had a really strong start and just kind of kept it consistent all day. I think we’re really excited to get back out there tomorrow and just leave it all out there on the course and hopefully bring back the W to Oxford.”

Flori also shot her personal low-18, notching 15 pars to go 1-under (71). The sophomore closed yesterday’s round with seven straight pars and picked up right where she left off, stretching her streak to 17 before a birdie on the second hole.

“Marti has looked solid all week with hitting fairways and greens,” Henkes said. “Her putter is finally clicking for her, so it’s a good combination. She is having fun and really enjoying herself on the course as well.”

After that birdie, she kept on rolling, going 22 consecutive holes without a bogey. She is tied for sixth place, just one stroke behind Harris at 144.

“I was just playing shot by shot without thinking about the score, trying to hit many fairways and giving myself chances for birdie,” Flori said. “My new putter is helping me a lot, and my short game is going well, which is what I was missing in the other tournaments.”

After two rounds, Ole Miss leads the competition with 114 pars. Flori has been a big part of that, leading all individuals with 30 pars—15 in each round. Freshman Pi-Lillebi Hermansson isn’t far behind with 25, good for sixth in the tournament. Harris and senior Maria Toennessen each have eight birdies, placing them in a tie for the fifth most in the field.

The field will tee off at 7:45 a.m. CT in a shotgun start. Ole Miss will pair with Coastal Carolina and Campbell. Flori and Harris will tee of from the first hole, Hermansson and senior Madisen Bentley will tee off from the second, and Toennessen will start from the third.
