SEC Power Rankings: “How the East Was Lost”
Wow, what a weekend!
Tennessee, in all likelihood, has locked up the East, but in doing so has won the honor to face Alabama, not once, but twice. The Vols did the impossible Saturday in Athens as writing a new chapter into the “Hail Mary” endings of college football games. Just after the Bulldogs apparently had won the contest with a lengthy pass play, the Vols came right back with seconds remaining. Tennessee may be the best fourth quarter team we have seen in many, many years. Now their task gets even more difficult with a trip Saturday to College Station and a meeting with the equally solid 5-0 Aggies followed by hosting 5-0 Bama.
The Ole Miss Rebels flexed their offensive muscles once more amassing 48 points and over 600 yards. Defeating an undefeated team for the second week in a row, Ole Miss found a running game just “when we needed it most.” This team is truly exciting to watch and as it will be very interesting to see what bowl invitation awaits these great athletes.
The rankings did not change a great deal this week as all the favorites won…..
This week with Ole Miss and Missouri off, we have six conference games with two marquee contests as Alabama (5-0) invades Arkansas (4-1) along the battle of the undefeated in College Station. LSU travels to Florida; Auburn is at Mississippi State; Georgia heads to Columbia, SC and Vanderbilt is at Kentucky.
The Rebs should enjoy the week off in the midst of finding their new running attack. The Razorbacks have a tall task hosting Alabama and Ole Miss on back to back Saturdays. Following the next two weeks, the league standings will definitely get sorted out as the contenders along with the pretenders will be revealed.
