#TBT Ole Miss Former Athletes.. Where Are They Now? Featuring Todd Wade

img_5611Todd Wade is a homegrown Mississippian who followed in his grandfather and father’s footsteps to become an Ole Miss football player.

In 1995, Wade arrived at the University of Mississippi to play football as an offensive tackle under Coach Tommy Tuberville and eventually under Coach David Cutcliffe. Wade’s favorite memory during this time was the 1998 Ole Miss vs. LSU game when the Rebels scored
a touchdown in overtime and won 38-31.

“My favorite memory is during a game,” Wade said. “The 1998 game against LSU, and we beat them at the last second during overtime.”

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a minor in political science, Wade was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the second round of the 2000 NFL Draft. He played for the Dolphins for four years, and over the next five years he played for the Houston Texans and the Washington Redskins.

“The talent level is so high in the NFL that you have to use your head, not just your physical talent,” Wade said. “In high school, you’re in class all day and then you play football. In college you’re in class half the day, but in he NFL there isn’t any class. The only class is your job from eight to five.”

After retiring from the NFL, Wade returned to Oxford where he still owned a condo. Once he was back in Oxford, he decided to make it his home.

“Oxford has a lot to offer,” Wade said. “It’s easy to get around. If you want to go see something else you can, and it’s a good place to raise a family.”

Today, Wade resides in Oxford with his wife and five-week-old son. On the professional side, he invests in real estate in Mississippi, Georgia, Florida and Tennessee. In his free time, Wade enjoys piloting his plane that he keeps in a hanger in Oxford, free diving and is currently earning his MBA from the University of Miami.

“Oxford is not a bad spot to fly from,” Wade said. “I’m building a house here, so I’m not going anywhere.”
