Accessibility Ramps Installed Around the Square
Construction has been underway around The Square as the city works to become ADA compliant by making Oxford’s sidewalks more accessible to those with disabilities.
“I think the total number of ramps to be installed is around 13,” said Judy Pettit, ADA Officer for the City of Oxford. “It’s hard to say when the completion date will be because of football season, traffic and the weather.”
While Pettit said she realizes everything can’t be done overnight, the city continues to work toward ADA compliance and making Oxford accessible for all of its citizens.
“I’m not sure how many cities have an active Mayor’s Commission on Disability Issues,” Pettit said. “Oxford’s Mayor’s Commission has played a big role toward ADA compliance. The Mayor and Board of Aldermen are very supportive of the ADA, and I would rank Oxford as one of the most accessible cities in the state.”
