Oxford Impacted By “Friday Before Game-Day” Traffic
If you were planning to drive through the Square to get across town this evening, you may want to reconsider. The Square has been packed with Georgia and Ole Miss fans since at least 10 a.m. and is showing no signs of letting up anytime soon.
Just take a look for yourself:
However, it’s probably safe to say restaurants and retail stores on the Square are enjoying the boost in sales. Truck drivers spent most of the morning unloading goods to be sure stores were stocked up for this weekend’s traffic.
Noticed a bunch of Enterprise cars in town today? That’s because there are plenty of football fans arriving in planes. Airport worker Julie March said there were at least 90 aircrafts in the parking lot just last weekend.
As far as Enterprise goes, they’re enjoying the extra revenue, too. In fact, Corderic Govan, agency manager for Enterprise, said on average, they generate $25-35,000 in just one Game Day weekend.
Talk about a busy day in Oxford!
