Ronald Rychlak may be stationed in Oxford, Mississippi but his influence can be felt all the way to the Vatican and the United Nations.

Rychlak is currently a professor at the University of Mississippi Law School where he has worked for over thirty years. During this time he has served as Assistant Dean for thirteen years and Chair of the Hiring Committee for ten years.

In 2000 Rychlak wrote a book about Pope Pius XII that attracted the attention of the Holy See, the name of the Catholic Church’s position on the United Nations as a permanent observer.

Since that time Rychlak, along with his friend and fellow University of Mississippi Law professor John Czarnetzky, has been Advisor to the Holy missions for the United Nations.

“Every fall I go for a few weeks,” said Rychlak. “My focus is on the International Criminal Court and I’ve done critical writing on it.”

In addition to his work with the Law School and the United Nations, Rychlak has been the Chair of the Intercollegiate Athletics Committee for Ole Miss for over nine years and enjoys helping make positive strides for Ole Miss Athletics.

“It’s great being on the inside of decisions made by really effective people,” said Rychlak. “I got to be on the committee that hired Ross Bjork and Hugh Freeze and those were both really good and important decisions.”

Despite having this powerful position, Rychlak has kept his sense of humor and awe of great football legends during this time.

“After the hirings were made everyone on the committee signed footballs,” said Rychlak. “There are now seven footballs in the world that have mine and Archie Manning’s signatures on them and I have one of them.”

Rychlak is also a husband, father to six children, and active in his local church in Oxford. This helps him keep his priorities and proudest accomplishments straight.

“It is important to mention these,” said Rychlak. “My life is with my family and the Law School.”
