Drake McCarter Named MACJC Special Teams Player of the Week

Northwest Mississippi Community College freshman kicker/punter Drake McCarter has been named the MACJC Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in last Thursday’s 31-14 win over Pearl River.
McCarter connected on a 32-yard field goal in the first quarter, staying a perfect 3-for-3 on the season, and added nine punts for an average of 36 yards with six inside the 20. He also averaged 61.5 yards on six kickoffs with one touchback.
The Saltillo native is averaging 37.2 yards per punt on 13 attempts, which ranks 12th in the NJCAA, while his seven punts inside the 20 are tied for second in the nation.
McCarter and Northwest have a huge test Thursday night, playing host to unbeaten and 10th-ranked Itawamba at Bobby Franklin Field.
