Terry Caldwell Looks To Improve On 2015 Season

Terry Caldwell was asked to replace an injured C.J. Johnson last season, and while Caldwell struggled at times he stepped in and gave the Rebels valuable minutes.

Caldwell, a junior who played two years at Northwest Community College, will be asked to provide more snaps for the Rebels this year.

Caldwell has learned from a year ago, and hopes to improve on his play during the 2016 season.

“For me, I just watch more film and make sure I have my eyes right and fitting up better, better tackling. Last year, I feel like my speed is great, my coverage is great and getting to the ball is not a problem. Just better tackling and just running my feet this year,” Caldwell said.

Caldwell said that he’s been enjoying fall camp.

“It’s fun. We love the game. Of course, it’s tiring. But it’s all worth it in the end, especially with opening up against Florida State. That’s a great motivator, a mindset to have to take every day serious and just have fun with it,” Caldwell said.

The Rebels brought in former Oregon State linebacker and graduate transfer Rommel Mageo to contribute at linebacker this season. Caldwell has been very impressed so far of Mageo’s play.

“He’s very determined. He has his mind set that he wants to get a lot of reps on the field. He’s coming in watching film. He’s working hard in the weight room, on and off the field. He’s an all-around good guy. We’re glad to have him with this program.

“He’s handling it very well. I’ve never seen anyone just pick up our defense especially so fast just because we have such a complex defense, we run so many fronts and coverages. With him picking it up that fast it really says a lot and really says he really wants to come in and play and he’s trying to make the defense help out our team”
