Top Headlines: Coach Freeze, Players Discuss ‘Rise Up’ Theme
The Ole Miss football team launched the 2016 season under the theme “Rise Up.” Based on the Bible verse Ezra 10:4, “Rise up; this matter is in your hands,” Coach Huge Freeze said its good to be back in camp.
“I really enjoy this two weeks of camp where we can spend a lot of time speaking truth into our young men’s lives hoping that it will take and impact their life outside of football,” Freeze said to reporters at the annual media day event. “Our three things we’re really concentrating on is being competitors that love to win and hate to lose in every area of our life, understanding the meaning of sacrifice, others before self, and learning to communicate, which builds trust and being a transparent young man.”
No. 75 Ole Miss center Robert Conyers said the “Rise Up” standard applies both on and off the field.
“When your number is called you have to rise to the occasion,” said Conyers. “Whatever challenge is in front of you – you have to ‘rise up’ and face it.”
Conyers says the concept isn’t just on the football field.
“What you do off the field, how you present yourself in public, how you treat women and you deal with alcohol and drugs. You have to rise up and be a man about your actions.”
