Death-Row Inmate Gets Sentence Overturned
The state Supreme Court has thrown out the sentence of a death-row inmate who was convicted of one of the most horrific crimes the Mississippi Delta has ever seen.
Anthony Carr had been awaiting execution for his role in the murders of a Quitman County family during a burglary in 1990. Carr and a co-defendant were convicted of shooting a man, his wife and their twelve-year-old son, and raping their nine-year-old daughter, leaving her to die in a fire they set before leaving the house.
But the Supreme Court says there are questions about whether Carr was mentally competent to stand trial.
