Oxford Crime Report: Friday – Sunday, July 22 – 24: Domestic Violence, House Burglaries
Oxford police responded to the following calls: 12 suspicious activities, 11 alarms, eight disturbances, six animal complaints, five welfare concerns, three reported DUI drivers, three 911 hang-up calls, three ambulance assists, three house burglaries (University Trails, Cotton Creek and Jackson Avenue East), two malicious mischief, two fire department assists, two illegally parked cars, two motorist assists, a simple assault, a shoplifting, a recovered property, a code violation and a auto burglary (Jefferson Avenue and Jackson Avenue East intersection)
Oxford police investigated 10 wrecks, issued 44 traffic citations and made three arrests on the following charges:
Public intoxication
No seatbelt and possession of drug paraphernalia
Careless driving and possession of drug paraphernalia
Lafayette sheriff’s department responded to the following incidents: 10 suspicious activities, eight service calls, eight disturbances, eight traffic complaints, four accidents, four welfare concerns, four transportations, three alarms, three domestic violence incidents, three scams, two animal complaints, two juvenile complaints, two civil matters, two follow-ups, a residential burglary (County Road 364), a grand larceny, a petit larceny, a harassment, and a natural cause death.
Lafayette sheriff’s department made five arrests on the following charges:

Friday, July 22
Fire alarm at 1:01 p.m. due to a resident pulling the alarm at State Veteran’s home
Saturday, July 23
Smoke detector malfunction at 3:34 p.m. due to water getting into it at National Center for Natural Products Research
Sunday, July 24
Smoke detector malfunction at 1:14 p.m. due to being faulty at 104 South 17th Street
Smoke detector activation at 1:58 p.m. due to steam cleaning carpet at 642 North 14th Street
Smoke detector malfunction at 4:47 p.m. on ninth floor trash room in Crosby Hall
Gas leak at 8:55 p.m. due to the bleeder valve not being properly screwed in which the fire department repaired at C.B. Webb Building #918
Prank pull at 11:55 p.m. on third floor stairs at Burns Hall
