Mugg Cakes Brings Poetreats and Tasty Treats to Oxford
If you are looking for music, poetry, and a great atmosphere, Poetreats at Mugg Cakes is the place to be.
Opening just over a month ago, Mugg Cakes, owners Karrian and Derek Brown seek to offer tasty treats and a weekly event for all to come and display their talents. Poetreats takes place on Friday nights from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m at 68 Highway Road 334, just before Lafayette High School.
There is a flat admission fee of $2.00 or you can pay $5.00 which not only gives you admission but also includes one of Mugg Cakes delicious cupcakes.
When asked where the idea for Poetreats came from Derek Brown said, “We knew there wasn’t a consistent event for poets and musicians and we wanted to have an event for that and get some words out there and maybe even an impromptu concert.”
Derek and Karrian have created an inviting atmosphere for anyone to openly express themselves. Thus, making the night all about people sharing their poetry, music, and words.
“We have an open platform and open mic, nothing is censored. It’s all spoken emotion, and it’s kid friendly. We encourage teens to come and share emotion.” said Derek Brown
When asked what the goal is for Poetreats and the community Karrian said, “We welcome every walk or life, every being that has a voice or something that they may want to share. If they want to share music and sing a song. If they want to recite a poem, we welcome that. We want to give teenagers a chance to open up and share what they have outside of Facebook and social media, this stage will provide them with a platform to open up.”
Next Friday night be sure to meet your friends at Mugg Cakes for Poetreats for a great night of music, poetry, and cupcakes.
