Insell reflects on Pat Summitt’s impact on women’s basketball

Ole Miss women’s basketball coach Matt Insell reflected on Pat Summitt’s impact on the game of basketball. His thoughts are below:

“It’s a sad day for women’s basketball, but really a sad day for all of basketball because Pat Summitt paved the way for a lot of coaches and for a lot of student-athletes.

“Women’s basketball before Pat Summit was not what it is today, by any means. The opportunities that our players have today with the facilities, financial support, academic support and really all of the support our student-athletes have now, much of that is because of Coach Summitt and the work that she did at an early stage of her career.

“She will be deeply missed. She is somebody that was very special to me in my development. I followed her career my whole life, from early on as a young child learning what basketball was, all the way up to coaching against her. I will always cherish those moments of talking to her and getting advice from her, as well as the moments of playing against her.

“Very seldom does someone pass away and the world stands still, but today for Coach Summitt, the world stood still.”

The lawyer representing Lindsey Miller, the stepfather of former Ole Miss offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil, requested a 120-day extension to serve process on Tunsil.

In a report by The Clarion-Ledger, Matt Wilson, the attorney for Miller in the lawsuit, filed a motion Friday in Lafayette County Circuit Court requesting that judge John Luther Kelly allow the extension. As the situation stands, Wilson has until Aug. 24 to deliver a copy of the lawsuit to Tunsil. Wilson filed the lawsuit on April 26.
