Oxford Crime Report: Wednesday, June 22 – Burglary, Vehicle Accidents
James Mathis – Burglary
On June 20, Oxford police investigators arrested James Mathis (54 of Oxford) with one count of burglary. James Mathis was charged with burglary of a dwelling on Johnson Avenue Extension that occurred on June 2, 2016. An investigator stopped Mathis when he was seen walking from that area while carrying a garbage bag full of items. Upon speaking to the investigator, Mathis gave consent to have the bag checked. During the search, the items stolen from Johnson Avenue were found in the bag. His bond was set at $2,500.
Oxford police responded to the following incidents: five suspicious activities, four alarms, two malicious mischief, two complaints of lost property, two welfare concerns, a disturbance, a reported DUI, a simple assault, an ambulance assist, a motorist assist, a scam, a counterfeit currency, a petit larceny, an illegally parked car and a 911 hang up call.
Oxford police investigated 12 wrecks, issued 23 traffic citations and made seven arrests on the following charges:

Shoplifting
Public intoxication and warrant served
No headlights, suspended driver’s license, switched tag and DUI
Public intoxication, possessions of drug paraphernalia and shoplifting
Speeding, no insurance, no seatbelt and possession of Schedule II Narcotics
University police responded to the following incidents: two vehicle stops, a disturbance at Saloum Tennis Facility, a report of a suspicious person at Kincannon Hall parking lot, a vehicle accident at Paris-Yates Chapel, a vehicle accident at Deaton Hall and a vehicle accident at Stewart Hall.
Oxford Fire Department received no emergency calls.
