Jim Hendrix, local photographer and fine art printer, has added canvas to the list of fine art and photo papers he uses.

Since he began printing canvases, they have been quite popular. This is because canvas, protected with acrylic varnish and mounted on stretcher bars, gives a richer artistic impression and is ready to hang without the trouble and expense of matting and framing. Jim offers canvases in a gallery wrap configuration, usually with the image mirrored on the sides.

Since Jim prints in-house, he controls the process. So he is able to ensure high standards, he prints any size on demand and he delivers quickly. Samples of Jim’s images can be seen in galleries on his website (www.oxphoto.org). However, his repertoire is larger, so when someone has an idea of what they want, Jim generates a collection of possibilities in Adobe’s Cloud and sends the buyer a link to it. Settling on a purchase decision usually takes several emails, text and/or phone communications and sometimes a visit to his studio. Typical prices are posted on Jim’s website under SHOPPING. Jim does not shoot social events or portraits.

Besides printing his own photography, Jim has a printing service for local artists and photographers. Since he has professional-grade printers that use archival pigmented inks, stocks fine art papers and follows proper color management procedures, he can produce the highest quality prints available today. Prices for this service and other details are posted on his website under PRINTING.

Finally, Jim has begun digitally reproducing original art for local artists. This is difficult to do with complete faithfulness because scanners and cameras do not capture the absolute colors, shades and highlights. So, methods are used to correct the errors to the degree possible. Using a calibrated computer monitor, the digitized image is edited for the closest possible match to the original. And finally, print proofing iterations are needed to bring the printed image as close as possible to the original. At some point, a decision is made to commit to full-size prints. Jim wants to make his service affordable to local artists who do not have a large market, so he is charging much less than most online services charge.

Jim’s contact information is on his website at www.oxphoto.org under JIM HENDRIX.
