Seven Houses, Three Acres Across from Ole Miss Campus to be Auctioned June 23

The city of Oxford is currently experiencing the “seller’s market” in real estate with people buying new homes or second homes for weekend visits. Now on June 23, those looking to buy homes to live in or rent out can participate in the auctioning of seven houses on three acres on Washington Avenue Extension.

The Charles Wilkinson Estate, named after the late Oxford physician, is auctioning these homes. The auction will be held on Thursday, June 23, at 2:00 p.m. at Marriott Courtyard located at 305 Jackson Avenue East.

United Country Real Estate-Redfield Group Auctions’ Project manager, Don Boozer, said, “The property is all owned by an estate acquired by a gentleman who was a physician. He passed away and the estate continued to own the homes and decided to put it all on the market at once because they were uncertain if the worth would be worth more to one buyer that might want it all or to seven individual buyers, or somewhere in between because they’re all adjoined. Since they’re so close to campus and all, they decided to do them all at the same time to make sure everyone knows about it.”

Whoever buys these houses can enjoy a short walk to the Sorority Row (which is what Washington Avenue turns into once it enters the campus) across the Jackson Avenue. These houses are within sight of the University of Mississippi campus.

The starting price has not been listed, but to get an idea of property value one could consider the 12-acre Dunbar property within the campus which the University of Mississippi offered $12 million for. Read the story here.

Boozer noted that three bigger houses (Property One, Two and Seven) of the seven were built in 1940, 1954 and 1964. He was uncertain about the years the four smaller ones (Properties Three to Six) were built.

The property inspection tours will be held on Wednesday, June 15 and Wednesday, June 22.

To register for the auction, a bid deposit of $5,000 is required but will be either refunded at auction’s end or applied to the earnest money deposit if applicable. The registration begins at 1:00 p.m. at Marriott Courtyard.

Upon being declared a buyer, a down payment of ten percent is due immediately. The balance of the purchasing amount will be due within 45 days of closing. A buyer’s premium of ten percent will be added to the successful bid price in order to arrive at the total contract price paid by the purchaser.
