Oxford Film Festival (OFF) to Screen “Texas Heart” May 31 Before Hollywood Premiere

Oxford Film Festival 2016 attendees share their thoughts on the film “Texas Heart.”

Oxford Film Festival will present a special screening of festival favorite “Texas Heart” at Malco Theaters ahead of the Hollywood premiere.

The film will return to Oxford’s Malco Studio Cinema for a special event screening on Tuesday, May 31 with a Q & A hosted by OFF’s Executive Director, Melanie Addington. The film will premiere in Hollywood on June 3 before going into distribution.

Returning from a fantastic festival run, “Texas Heart,” directed by Mark David, is the Winner of the Best Picture, Jury Award and Audience Awards at both the Albuquerque and Durango film festivals, and an audience favorite in February at the Oxford Film Festival. “Texas Heart” stars John Savage (“The Deer Hunter”), Lin Shaye (“Insidious”), Erik Fellows (“Days of Our Lives”), Kam Dabrowski (“Killing Lincoln”), Daniela Bobadilla (“Anger Management”) and Johnny Dowers (“The Bridge”).

“Actor Kam Dabrowski’s portrayal of “Tiger,” a kind-hearted, young autistic man is as honest a performance as you will see all year,” says film programmer Rich Henrich, with the Albuquerque Film Festival.

“Texas Heart was just such a great showcase of fantastic movies that come out of Mississippi. We had such an enthusiastic response at the film festival and are glad to partner with them to do a couple special screenings. This is a rare opportunity to be able to interact with cast (and crew) after the screening so come ready with great questions,” says moderator Melanie Addington.

The film features some of Mississippi’s most prominent film actors: Johnny McPhail (“The Free State of Jones”), Susan McPhail (“A Walk in the Woods”), Rhes Low (“Forced Move”), Michael LeCour (“Forced Move”), Rebecca Jernigan (“The Client”) and Randy Weeks—all of whom will appear at the Oxford screenings and for the Q&As that will follow along with writer and producer Daniel Blake Smith. The same Mississippi actors along with Writer/Producer Nick Feild will appear at the Jackson screenings.

“It’s extremely gratifying to see the film Nick (Feild) and I wrote and rewrote over a couple of years come to fruition and win awards at festivals and find audiences all over who relate to the film’s story and characters. It may be called ‘Texas Heart’ but it’s got some powerful and talented Mississippi blood coursing through its veins,” states the co-writer and producer of the film.

Shot almost entirely on location in Mississippi, in Charleston and Granada, “Texas Heart” tells the story of a corrupt New York lawyer (Erik Fellows) who flees the mob after losing a case. While hiding out in a small forgotten Texas town, he stumbles upon a powerful reason to do the right thing, even if it means his life. “Texas Heart” is a moving and compelling independent film about starting over and the importance of belonging in a community no matter what the differences may be on the surface.

“’Texas Heart’ was an incredible opportunity for our state. It’s the first feature film to base in Charleston, Mississippi, and it has expanded the ability of our communities to stand-in for other parts of the country. Our local crew and cast members in that region continue to talk about the great experience they had during the production of the film. Screening the film in Mississippi is an honor for all of us and a testament to the good will and professionalism of the team of producers behind the project,” says Nina Parikh, Deputy Director of the Mississippi Film Office.

On May 31, the film will screen at Malco’s Oxford Studio Cinema with a Q & A with members of the cast and writer/ producer Daniel Blake Smith. Both screenings will be a special presentation of the Oxford Film Festival.
