A little rain never hurt anyone, especially when they are coming together for a great cause.

That was the case this Friday, March 22, when local sorority, Chi Omega Tau chapter, hosted their annual Crawfish Boil with all of the proceeds going to their national philanthropy, the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

“Usually we don’t have it inside,” said Hattie Wheeler, Chi O’s Philanthropy chair. “ It’s always outside and it’s never been bad weather like this. Usually it’s always hot and sunny.”

So this year, tents were set up on the back porch and students and family enjoyed their drinks and lunch indoors to cheer on the Rebels play instead of enjoying the fine tunes of a live band.

Up until this year, Chi O was the only chapter out of their national foundation to have a local philanthropy and a national philanthropy. Due to certain circumstances, the sorority no longer has a local philanthropy and puts all of their efforts towards helping the Make-A-Wish foundation give hope, strength and joy to children with life-threatening medical conditions.

In the past, Chi O has granted a wish every two years, but now they have the humbling opportunity to grant a wish every year.

Including money from the $10 entrance donation and outside donations from family and friends and alumni, Chi O was able to raise $40,000 last year and hope to match that or go beyond that amount this year.

“We were so afraid that with it being cold and rainy and the game being on that the turn out would not be as it usually is but I’m really pleased with the way it turned out,” said Wheeler.
