Standing a few blocks off the Square, at 619 Van Buren Avenue, is the house best known as the home of Miss Theora Hamblett, internationally known primitive artist. For thirty-seven years, Miss Theora lived and had her studio here.

The house features etched ruby glass above the double doors and usual cloverleaf trim. The four bedroom home is a Mississippi Historic Place.

Miss Theora began painting in the mid 1950s and by the mid 60s she was selling to major collections. Most of her work was left the the University of Mississippi and can be viewed at the University Museum.
