The Epsilon Xi chapter of Sigma Nu fraternity presents $75,000 to Kevin Orr.

The Epsilon Xi chapter of Sigma Nu fraternity at the University of Mississippi has presented a $75,000 check to Kevin Orr, a former Oxford police officer who became paralyzed after a motorcycle accident on May 14, 2008.

Kevin Orr has a goal: to advocate for people with spinal injuries and disabilities. He works with disabled people to help them become independent and creative through painting. He also works for a nonprofit in Tupelo called the Life Office. His story can be read here: http://www.kevinonwheels.blogspot.com/

The fraternity members raised the $75,000 from its annual Charity Bowl fundraiser, the largest collegiate philanthropy in the country which benefits victims of paralysis. The Epsilon Xi chapter founded the Charity Bowl in 1990 in honor of the late Roy Lee “Chucky” Mullins, an Ole Miss football player who became immediately paralyzed after tackling Vanderbilt’s fullback during the 1989 Homecoming game.

In the Charity Bowl, the Sigma Nu members play a football game against members of another fraternity. This year, Sigma Nu played against the Alpha Upsilon chapter of Kappa Alpha Order last Thursday. However, since there was inclement weather last Thursday, the cheer competition between sororities with the crowning of the Charity Bowl Queen was moved to tonight.
