Laquon Treadwell Instills Wisdom into Youth at Football Camp

200 aspiring athletes showed up at Everett Sports Marketing’s football camp on Saturday, April 2.

Last Saturday afternoon, April 2,  200 campers took to the field at FNC Park to learn invaluable football skills from former Ole Miss wide receiver Laquon Treadwell at the Everett Sports Marketing camp.

This camp was put together by Dan Everett who also invited local area high school and college football coaches to help out.  When he invited Treadwell, the football player said to Everett that he did not want to take a dime from the young players’ families. Instead, Treadwell chose to put the profits towards scholarships for disadvantaged and low-income football players.  Thanks to Treadwell, a total of 80 campers were on a scholarship.

The reason Treadwell chose to donate his time and knowledge was to help provide opportunities for aspiring football players.

“I wanted to give back,” Treadwell said. “Growing up, I had plenty of camps around my neighborhood that I couldn’t pay for. I wanted to make it possible for anyone to come. I don’t think they should be charging to come see me. I wanted to give back and show my appreciation.”

Treadwell taught valuable football skills and wisdom to young athletes.

The record-breaking Ole Miss wide receiver revealed that he did not go to football camps until he was near graduation in high school.  But he learned and retained valuable information whenever he could when he played football in school.

“I started playing the game when I was ten, and everything I learned was from my coaches,” Treadwell said. “And (I learned to) take it seriously – the discipline part of learning how to block and do all the little things right. And you just kind of take over with your natural abilities (to match) the football fundamentals. That’s kind of how it went for me.”

Treadwell hopes that the football camp will leave the young athletes with knowledge and wisdom to further their football career.

“I am humble and I appreciate it, and just my love for the game…and I hope it rubs off on them,” Treadwell said. “I hope that I teach them something that will help them later on down the road. I show them my personality enough for them to know that we (football athletes) are normal and we just work harder at what we want to achieve.”

Local and collegiate football coaches help train the young campers.

Treadwell was happy to have worked with individual coaches to help the young athletes. “I am just here to run drills and teach a little knowledge, life skills of the game.” Treadwell said. “And they are doing a great job. They set (the camp) up perfectly.”

He believes that football camps for the youth are beneficial and will inspire the young athletes to go far in their aspirations.

“When I was a kid, D. Wade came to an event and I remember shaking his hand and it still rings bells with me,” Treadwell said. “Just being able to meet him as a kid and now kids are looking up to me. It will spark something is some of these kids that want to be great and be inspirational.”
