Ole Miss Phi Mu Alpha Delta Hosted ‘Bonnamu’ for Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital

The Ole Miss Phi Mu Alpha Delta chapter raised over $21,000 during its annual philanthropy event “Bonnamu” at Woodson Ridge Farms Wednesday, March 30.

Phi Mu held Bonnamu to raise money for its local philanthropy in Memphis, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. Le Bonheur is a nationally recognized hospital exclusively for children.

Phi Mu Philanthropy Chairman, Savannah Odum said, “Raising money for Le Bonheur is the single most important thing we can do as a chapter. It teaches our chapter about compassion, hard work and humbles us all at the same time. Knowing that our chapter can make an impact at Le Bonheur gives our chapter a purpose as a community.”

On Wednesday, two Le Bonheur families attended to be a part of the event.

“Being able to meet them and hear their stories allows our chapter to have a tangible understanding for why raising money and awareness is the most important thing we can do during our philanthropic events,” Odum said.

Bonnamu is a play on the popular music festival in Tennessee, called Bonnaroo. People attending were encouraged to wear hippie or festival attire.

The event included a photo booth, food from Chick-fil-A and incorporated a ‘battled of the bands’ aspect where different fraternity bands performed on stage. Ole Miss students and community members showed support and cheered them on.

Phi Mu sophomore, Margot Beard, said, “One of the best parts about the night was seeing people you know perform on stage. Everyone is dressed up and the bands put in a lot of work to practice the songs they play.”

This year, Bonnamu featured fifteen bands plus a special guest, Sam Mooney, who performed. The event also hosted four guest judges including Le Bonheur events coordinator Kelly Scott, Miss Ole Miss Mary Elizabeth Kakales and two football players C.J. and A.J. Moore.

Sigma Chi Fraternity won first place, Delta Psi won second place and Sigma Pi came in third place this year.

Raising $21, 600, Odum called the night a success. “None of the event would’ve been possible without the help of all the fraternities participation and dedication as well as the incredible donations to CMNH from our sponsors,” she said.
