The Ole Miss Kappa Delta Alpha Mu chapter held its annual philanthropy event “Shamrock and Roll” at the its sorority house on campus yesterday, March 22.

Kappa Delta held the event to raise money for the local non-profit organization, Oxford Exchange Club Family Center and the Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA) national office.

The Oxford Exchange Club Family Center helps members of the Oxford community. Its mission is to “improve the quality of life for at risk families by breaking the cycle of child abuse and neglect through prevention, intervention, and educational services.”

Prevent Child Abuse America is Kappa Delta’s national philanthropy. Nationally, Kappa Delta has donated more than $18 million to prevent child abuse throughout the country. Thousands of Kappa Delta chapters nationwide host its own unique “Shamrock events” every year in order to raise money for the organization.

“We are very proud of the event, and love knowing we are benefiting such incredible organizations that do so much for families nationally and in our own community,” said Ole Miss Kappa Delta president, Elyssa Howel.

Rock n Roll Back to the 50s

This year, the Ole Miss Shamrock event had a 50s style theme. Those who attended were encouraged to dress in fashion styles from the memorable rock n roll era.

“Shamrock and Roll” featured a band, a photo both and food provided by the Kappa Delta house staff and Taylor Grocery. Members of the community, the University and other Ole Miss Greek life members showed up to enjoy the event and support the philanthropy efforts of the sorority.

Meal and raffle tickets were sold to help with the fundraising. The lucky winner of the raffle received $500 cash and 2 Hangout Fest tickets. Eighty percent of the proceeds from the ticket sales went to Oxford Exchange Club Family Center, and the remaining 20 percent was donated to PCAA’s national office for its national programs.

“Shamrock was a huge success! We want to extend our thanks to everyone who purchased tickets and helped us raise money for these amazing organizations,” said Vice President of Community Service for Kappa, Zoe Windham.
